The Leflore County girls and boys basketball teams both placed third with wins Friday at the Region 3-2A Tournament at Coahoma County.
The Lady Tigers (10-16) cruised to a 32-5 win over Riverside. They led 14-0 after the first period, 18-3 at the half and 28-4 after the third frame.
Ja’Kya Thompson led Leflore with 12 points, and Jakyrra Sandifer tacked on eight points. Jameshia Kyles had five points.
The Lady Tigers will play at the Choctaw County-Calhoun City loser Monday at 7 p.m. in the State 2A Tournament. They were playing in the Region 4 title game Friday night.
The Tigers rallied from a 44-41 deficit at the four-minute mark to knock off the Cubs 56-49 in the consolation game. Leflore (11-17) led 12-10 after one and 24-18 at the half.
A 20-14 run by the Cubs in the third tied the game at 38-38 headed to the fourth frame.
DJ Jones led Leflore with 19 points, and Kamari Buck tacked on 14. Keveunte Parker had nine, and Ladarian Pleasant tallied six.
The Tigers will play Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the State 2A Tournament at either J.Z. George or Choctaw County. Those two played in the Region 4 championship game Friday night.
- J.Z. George: The Jaguars played in the Region 4-2A championship game Friday night against Choctaw County after beating Bruce 68-41 Thursday in the semifinals.
The tournament is being played at Choctaw County in Ackerman.
The Jaguars (7-15) were led by senior D’Anthony “Yogi” McGlothan, who scored a team-high 36 points.
He made 15-of-25 field goal attempts and 5-of-9 from the free-throw line. The Holmes Community College football signee also grabbed eight rebounds and made two steals.
Da’Ravion Seals chipped in nine points and four boards, and Alex Criss had six points, four steals and three boards.
Kendarius Head, Keiyhaun Wilks and Rodney Catron had four points each. Head also had six steals and three rebounds, and Wilks had a team-high nine rebounds. Catron had two steals.
The Jaguars will be at home Tuesday for a first-round State 2A playoff game against either Leflore County or Leland.
