The Pillow Academy baseball team bounced back from Tuesday’s blowout loss at Hartfield Academy with an 8-4 win at Calhoun Academy on Thursday.
The middle of the Mustangs’ lineup stayed hot as No. 3 hitter JC Garrard connected on an RBI double, cleanup hitter Dayne Sanford slugged a two-run home run — his fourth of the season — and No. 5 hitter Brock Makamson tallied an RBI triple.
Drew Lamb also tallied two hits, two walks and a run scored for Pillow (4-2), which hosts Winona on Friday.
- Amanda Elzy: The Panthers suffered a 34-5 blowout loss in three innings against Simmons on Thursday.
Cody Randle led Elzy (1-2) at the plate with two hits and four RBIs. The sophomore first baseman plated Martize Lott in the first inning before driving in three more runs with a bases-clearing triple in the second inning. Sam Baldin also notched an RBI on a bases-loaded walk in the second inning.
Baldin took the loss on the mound, allowing 20 runs in the first inning. Simmons led 25-5 after two innings.
On Wednesday, the Panthers lost 18-4 at Humphreys County. They return to action Friday at home against Ruleville at 4 p.m.
