The Pillow Academy junior high Lady Mustangs moved into the championship game of the District 1-5A Tournament with a 43-24 win over Magnolia Heights Thursday night at Pillow.
The 19-2 Lady Mustangs will play Saturday at 1 p.m. against Bayou Academy in the championship game.
Pillow led 14-1 after the first period, 24-12 at the half and 35-19 after the third period.
Alanna Hodo led the way with 14 points, eight rebounds and five steals. Ella Wallace tacked on 12 points and four boards.
The Mustangs got past Magnolia Heights 59-53 in double overtime Wednesday in a first-round game. Regulation ended tied at 42-42. Both teams only scored three points each in the first extra period, and Pillow held a 12-6 scoring advantage in the second overtime.
Magnolia Heights led 14-10 after one, but Pillow took a 24-22 lead by halftime.
A 13-5 run in the third gave the Chiefs a 35-29 lead headed to the fourth.
Jack Kirk poured in a team-high 24 points for the Mustangs, and Jack McClellan had 13 points. Easton Harrison had nine points.
Pillow played top-seeded Heritage Academy late Thursday night. The winner advances to play Bayou in the title game at 2:15 p.m. Saturday.
- Carroll Academy: The District 2-4A junior high tournament got started Thursday at Central Holmes Christian School in Lexington.
The top-seeded Rebels play Friday at 7:45 p.m. against No. 4 seed Greenville St. Joe, which beat fifth-seeded Indianola Academy Thursday. Carroll is 17-2 overall.
The first boys game Friday is at 5:15 p.m. as No. 2 Winona Christian takes on No. 3 Central Holmes.
The championship game is Saturday at 2:15 p.m.
On the girls side, Carroll, the No. 2 seed, plays at 4 p.m. Friday against No. 3 Winona Christian. No. 1 Central Holmes will play the winner of Thursday’s Indianola-St. Joe game at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The title game is Saturday at 1 p.m.
