Littleton plans to attend Jackson State University and work toward becdoming a physician. Board drops US history test requirement

Mississippi high schoolers no longer have to pass the U.S. history test to graduate.
The Mississippi State Board of Education voted Thursday to remove the requirement starting this fall.
Department officials reiterated at the meeting that high schoolers would still have to take and pass history classes to graduate.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
