A crowd of children and adults line up Thursday to enter the Mississippi Highway Patrol station in Greenwood-Leflore Industrial Park, where the troopers and staff were holding a back-to school backpack giveaway. The hours were 5 to 7 p.m., but it did not take long for the 230 backpacks to be distributed. “At about 5:20, they were gone, and we were done,” said Trooper Jose B. Watson, a public officers officer. Deyonda McKinnis of Greenwood, who works in administrative support, had the idea for the project. “We just brought it to the troopers. We all agreed to contribute,” she said. Milwaukee Tool, Parker Wrecker Service and MSTN Transformers sponsored the event. “We are always happy to give back to the community ... especially the Greenwood community,” McKinnis said.
