Bond issue would raise school taxes by 25%

If voters approve the Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School Board’s bond-issue proposal in November, school taxes will rise by an estimated 25%.
That translates into a $110 increase in yearly taxes on an owner-occupied $100,000 house. And taxes on a vehicle worth $30,000 would rise by $99, according to Tax Assessor Leroy Ware.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
