Locus Benedictus to Host Spring Bazaar 2024

Make Sure Your Tax Preparer Is Properly Credentialed

If you pay someone to prepare your income tax, that person by law HAS to sign his or her full name on the papers. There should also be a Preparer’s Tax ID number. It’s the letter P followed by nine numbers. This lets the IRS keep track of accuracy and legality. If your tax return just says “self-prepared” on the signature line instead of the preparer’s full name, the person shouldn’t have charged you. Check your previous tax return copies. Before you choose someone to file your taxes, be sure to confirm that the preparer has a PTIN. You can easily do this by going to this website: https://irs.treasury.gov/rpo/rpo.jsf

US Businesses to be Required to Report BOI

There are many businesses that operate in the United States. Starting January 1, 2024, many business owners will be required to report identifying information about their owners to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network. Collecting Beneficial Ownership Information will make it harder for criminals to launder money. If you filed a document with your state's secretary of state to create your company, you might be required to report your BOI. Make sure your business is properly structured so that you can stay compliant with the new law.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
