The Pillow Academy tennis team finished the regular season on a high note, dominating Washington School 7-1 on Thursday at Twin Rivers.
The Mustangs’ three seniors — Dia Chawla, Avery McDaniel and Noah Lary — celebrated their last home game with straight-set victories in singles action.
Pillow swept doubles play, as the duos of William Brown and Sumner Tackett (No. 1 boys doubles), Arnav Thakur and Walker Saia (No. 2 boys doubles) and Izzy Hodges and Madeline Carroll (No. 1 girls doubles) each won in straight sets. In the No. 2 girls doubles matchup, Annie Powers and Jane Kimmel Buford triumphed in a tiebreaker, 10-5.
Druvh Patel lost the lone match of the day for the Mustangs (4-2) at No. 2 boys doubles.
Pillow returns to the court Tuesday for the district tournament at the Cleveland Country Club.
- Greenwood High: The Bulldogs ran into a powerhouse program in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs as defending state champion New Albany ended their season with a 7-0 sweep on Thursday.
New Albany didn’t drop a game in any of its matchups.
While GHS saw its season come to an end as a team, five individuals are still set to compete in the state tournament at the end of the month. Top singles player Arlonda Henderson will join the doubles duos of Janiya Henderson and Kendall Smith and David Kelly and Davianna Brent in Oxford on April 26.
