Carroll Academy’s Noah Beck and J.Z. George’s Aaniyah Williams had nights to remember for their respective teams on Thursday.
Beck scored a career-high 52 points in leading the Rebels to an 81-56 win over Deer Creek in Arcola. He was 13-of-30 in field goal attempts, was 4-of-13 from three-point land, and made 14-of-20 from the charity stripe. He also pulled down five rebounds and made three steals.
Carroll (1-3) also got 12 points from Mathis Beck and 11 from Drake Dunn.
In the junior varsity boys game, CA won 36-34 as Collin Hurst had 10 points and Cohen Blaylock and Nathan Matthews nine each.
In the varsity girls game, Carroll (2-6) came out on top 41-22 as Dru Chamblee scored 24 points. Bella Carter and Meri Brynn Reeves had six points each.
Carroll hosts Deer Creek on Nov. 29.
n J.Z. George: Williams, a sophomore point guard, finished with 44 points in leading the Lady Jags to a 54-11 win over West Bolivar at the J.Z. George Thanksgiving Classic Thursday.
She also had six steals for the Lady Jags (2-2).
J.Z. George raced out to a 12-3 lead after one and made it 31-6 by halftime.
In the boys game, West Bolivar won 50-40 as it led 15-3 after one, 25-23 at the half and 39-27 after the third period.
D’Anthony McGlothan had 18 points, and Alex Criss 10 for the Jags (1-1).
In games slated for Saturday at the tournament, Riverside’s girls play Ethel at 2 p.m., Ethel’s boys meet West Bolivar at 3:30 p.m., and J.Z. George’s two teams play Grenada at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
J.Z. George will play Monday against Houston High School at 6:30 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. at the Delta Duels Classic at Mississippi Valley State.
n Pillow Academy: The Howard sisters led the way Thursday night as the Lady Mustangs beat East Rankin Academy 69-31 in Pelahatchie.
Sarah Presley Howard and Elise Howard scored 16 points each. Sarah Presley also had four assists and three steals, and Elise had six boards, four steals and three assists. Avery Howard finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and four assists.
Pillow (5-2) led 15-11 after one, 36-12 at the half and 57-28 after the third frame.
In the boys game, Pillow came out on top 55-38 as John Heston Powers scored 14 and Cameron Lee 12. Pillow (2-2) outscored ERA 24-9 in the third to erase a 23-22 halftime deficit.
In the junior varsity girls game, Pillow lost 30-26 as Alanna Hodo had a team-high 17 points and five rebounds.
In the junior varsity boys game, Pillow dropped a 30-27 decision as Jack Kirk scored nine and Jack McLellan eight for the Mustangs.
Pillow will play Monday and Tuesday in the Delta Duels Classic. Monday, both teams take on Central Hinds at 1:30 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, the Lady Mustangs play Ingomar at 3:15 p.m., and the Mustangs face Grace Christian at 4:30 p.m.
n Leflore County: The Lady Tigers won their third straight game as they beat South Delta 35-33 Thursday night in Rolling Fork.
Ja’Kya Thompson led the Lady Tigers (3-4) with 17 points. Monica Coleman tacked on eight points. Leflore led 11-8 after one and 21-20 at the half, but South Delta took a 28-25 lead headed to the fourth.
In the boys game, South Delta won 58-34. Jakayrion Swinney led the Tigers (1-6) with 15 points.
Leflore entertains Yazoo County Saturday at 2 p.m.
n Amanda Elzy: The Panthers fell to 2-3 with a 54-50 loss to MS Palmer Friday night.
Keithrick Parker and Jacoreyun Miller had 13 points each. Perveontah Stancil tacked on nine points.
The Lady Panthers dropped a 41-19 decision to Palmer to fall to 2-3.
Kennedy Johnson led Elzy with six points. Evelyn Kelly had four points.
Elzy visits Greenwood Saturday at 12 p.m.
n Delta Streets Academy: The Lions fell 58-34 to Riverside High School Friday night at MVSU.
Riverside only led 25-20 at the half but exploded for a 24-5 run in the third period to lead 49-25.
AJ McGhee had 13 points, six boards and two assists for DSA (1-4). Christopher Jones had eight points and 14 rebounds, and Dameon Sanders had eight points and nine rebounds.
DSA plays Bayou Academy at 8:30 p.m. Monday in the Delta Duels Classic.
