Donna Oliver
Quoting from the article “Commissioner backs Valley’s Oliver” (May 14):
“I don’t get involved with the politics of who is president, because I have to work with whoever’s there,” (state Sen. David) Jordan said.
Is this the same David Jordan who was among those who wanted to picket or block the entrance to Mississippi Valley State University when Donna Oliver was hired? Just wondering?
And if he’s so interested in “working with” whoever’s there, what has he (or Bennie Thompson for that matter) done lately to spur the powers-that-be toward building a president’s residence at the university? They don’t mind trashing Dr. Oliver for living off-campus, yet she has neither the authority nor power to build a residence so she can move.
Perhaps if Double-Dip David is eager to help, he could work on that project.

Gay marriage
With President Obama’s new stance on gay marriage, it has obviously brought a huge uproar from this part of the country with it.
As you’d expect, the online survey that the Commonwealth began Monday is showing that most people do not want same-sex marriage allowed. Of course, the reason for this is a completely religious one and goes along the lines of: “God says it’s bad, so it should be illegal.”
However, by this logic any religion besides Christianity should be illegal, too, right? After all, God did say, “Have no other gods before me,” so aren’t Muslims and Hindus kind of breaking that rule, too?
Why isn’t premarital sex illegal? Why isn’t it illegal to blaspheme God?
These are all things condemned by the Bible, so if one thing it says is bad is against the law, shouldn’t they all be?

Market St. mayhem
In regard to the question of whether Dr. Arnold Smith is a “genius doctor or insane murderer”:
There is no evidence that having a high IQ predisposes you to psychotic behavior. To the contrary, the IQ of people with schizophrenia is slightly lower than the average person.

The letters M.D. behind your name do not make you more believable to the jury.
