Hate crimes
Regarding the editorial “Zero tolerance for race crime” (March 23):
Would Deryl Dedmon’s victim have been any more disrespected and abused and dead if the perpetrator and his friends had said, “Let’s drive over to the poor side of town and find some scuzzy drunk”?
How about if they’d said, “Let’s drive and find some hooker and abuse her”?
What if they’d just said, “Lookin’ for a fat old lady to run down — extra points if she’s disabled”?
Yet none of those would have been “racial crimes” or “hate crimes.”
Give me a break. If someone kills or injures me, I don’t care what race they are. Anything violent like that should be punished by the result of the crime, not by how the criminal “feels” about a racial group.

Hospital’s future
Regarding your article “Future of hospital discussed” (March 27):
It’s plain as the nose on my face that the Greenwood Leflore Hospital Board has become so political and biased that the hospital is in serious trouble.
First, Jerry Adams should be CEO. Second, all hospital board members excluding Alex Malouf should be replaced. Third, all administrative executive positions should be omitted. This hospital has too many chiefs and not enough Indians.
I hope the city and county sell this hospital and somebody like Baptist Memorial Hospital comes in and buys it before it’s too late.
Embezzlement
Regarding the article “Former Walmart cashier arrested” (March 15):
There’s so much going on in the town. People need to pray more and stop talking about people.
It’s a hard time now. People do foolish things to try to make it.

Regarding the article “Police warn of scam artists in city” (March 22):
I just can’t feel sorry for someone like that. To withdraw money from two different banks thinking that she was going to get rich means she is either desperate or just plain dumb.
