Tourism tax
Regarding the article “Perkins offers
own tourism bill” (March 22)
Why not just fire all the employees,
close the Greenwood Convention and Visitors Bureau bank account,
issue some bags and let Willie Perkins drive by weekly to collect
from local businesses? Then he could dole out some or whatever
suits his fancy.

Rep. Willie Perkins' buddy, Leflore
County Supervisor Robert Moore, just happens to be part of the
leadership of that American Legion post.

Is this not extortion ?

Vehicle misuse
Not all city, county and state workers
misuse public vehicles and fuel, but there are some that do.
Just last week, a sheriff’s department
car finished a call, went next door to a friend’s house and kept
the car running for about 40 minutes. It was just a waste of county
dollars.
They ride around at night, go
shopping, etc. If it takes new faces to correct these things, so be
it. But don’t just “elect.” Let’s “protect” what we have by
reporting the things we see being done wrong. It’s like Crime
Stoppers. It will make a difference.
If these workers would turn in their
keys and credit card at 5 p.m., this would stop a lot of misuse of
fuel.
Don’t get me wrong. City workers are
worse than the county workers.

Produce manager
Demetrice Davis, the produce manager
at Big Star on U.S. 82 in Greenwood, is a very helpful young
man.
He always has a smile on his face.
Demetrice has a vast knowledge of what
he has on hand in the produce department. He can tell you where
everything is. If he does not have a certain item, he’ll order it
for you.
He makes grocery shopping a good
experience for me and other shoppers at the Big Star
supermarket.

MVSU signs
Regarding the article “Valley to
rebuild football stadium” (March 20):
Who paid for the three MVSU signs on
U.S. 82? Did you really need three of them?
