Capital punishment
Regarding Randy Weeks’ church-page column (“A conversation with Jesus on capital punishment,” June 15):
I don’t know what “Jesus” Randy Weeks is talking to, but he is certainly not the biblical Jesus.
The Jesus of the Scripture believed that Scripture doesn’t contradict itself and that judgments should be sound. “RW Jesus” favors using straw-man arguments (defining capital punishment as murder) and taking shots at the Torah.
RW Jesus’ suggestion that government and law enforcement are to “turn the other cheek” and adopt a Christian view of retaliation toward criminal behavior shows his lack of biblical understanding.
God demanded that a murderer pay the ultimate price. Are we more righteous than God?
I think not.

Voter ID
I don’t really understand all the negative opinions concerning a photo ID.
I have a sister who is on Medicaid, and a photo ID is required for her. I have a driver’s license, and my photo is required.
Truthfully, just how many Americans do not have a photo ID and how hard would it be to get one? I pay a minimal amount for mine every five years.
I sincerely believe it would help tremendously in cleaning up the dead people who could vote during elections, don’t you?
Barack Obama
Regarding the comment by ponder10 in “My Two Cents” about Barack Obama (June 15):
Who is that someone who will guide this country in the right direction?
Surely not Mitt Romney. He doesn’t have a clue about what is going on or what to do.
Is someone else running on the Republican ticket?
just wondering
Dr. Arnold Smith
Regarding the article “Smith renews medical license” (June 14):
No judgment has been handed down in Dr. Arnold Smith’s case. Regardless of anyone’s opinion, he is entitled to due process and is innocent until proven guilty.
