Partisan politics
I was raised in the ’30s and ’40s. My family was all Democrats. As I grew older and looked at the national parties, I found myself either Republican or Democrat. In my life we had the States’ Rights Party, and now we have a tea party. I do not believe in a party telling me how to vote.
I know people who will vote for the one running only because he has an “R” behind his name. Some do the same with those who have a “D” behind theirs. It looks like in my America nowadays, people do not care who is running as long as they are R or D. I think the person counts, not his race or his color, but what he stands for.
Chris McDaniel, you lost. Go home. I am an independent.
The tea party is tearing up my America like the States’ Rights Party did.

Greenwood
Downtown proposal
Regarding the editorial “Leave Bourbon St. in New Orleans” (July 4):
Absolutely correct. If the designation of an entertainment district in downtown Greenwood is supposed to entice more businesses to locate there, I can’t think of many places where they could.
The mayor and City Council do realize that this would mean a sharp increase in alcohol consumption downtown, right?

Regarding the article “Ex-GHS principal going to court” (July 6):
Please, stop writing about this issue. It is tiring, boring, sad and unproductive. It is shameful to Greenwood High School.
The focus needs to be on structuring GHS to benefit its students. “Maximizing Student Potential!”

Itta Bena’s tax lien
Regarding the article “IRS slaps tax lien on Itta Bena” (July 4):
What do we know now? How do we allow things to happen and no questions are asked? How do we go on for years not knowing this?
The webs we weave ... oh, my.
