Guns at parks
Regarding the article “Ban on guns in parks in works” (July 24):
This is a fine example of how stupid the Leflore County Board of Supervisors is.
It’s 2012, and a gun ban at parks is “in the works.” Where the heck have you all been for the last 100 years? It amazes me how blind you people are.
Why don’t you ask Sheriff Ricky Banks how many decades he has received calls about guns being shot at parks. At the park down U.S. 49 at Little Round Lake, people go down there every Sunday, get high and shoot guns.

I have a question for the Leflore County Board of Supervisors regarding the gun ban in the parks.
Are the concealed-carry permit holders creating a problem, and if so, how?

Assault weapons
Regarding the editorial “Reinstate ban on assault weapons” (July 24):
What is the difference in an AR-15 and your run-of-the-mill deer rifle? Nothing. They operate the same — “semi-automatic.” They just look different.
Also, any gun the Colorado gunman switched to would have had more, not less firepower. The AR-15 fires a .223-caliber round, slightly larger than a .22.
I find that most people who write about gun control know very little about guns.
An assault rifle is an automatic weapon. The gun-control folks changed the definition to include any semi-automatic weapon. This includes most hunting rifles.

Bike helmet law
Amen, bonnie blue (“My Two Cents,” July 24).
If they were to ride a bicycle or a Harley and crack their skull when they hit the hard, hot pavement, guess who will have to feed them and change their diapers for the rest of their lives? We taxpayers!
This is an “all about me” society, and it makes me sick.
