Dilapidated housing
An election for mayor of the city of Greenwood is coming up. Mayor Carolyn McAdams has been doing an excellent job. However, there are some things lacking. She may need more time to address these issues. I don’t know.
Nonetheless, we have a great problem of dilapidated houses and bad streets in South, West and East Greenwood. Surely there must be a housing code for the whole city. You don’t see all those boarded-up houses in North Greenwood.
These houses need to be fixed up or pulled down. If the owner cannot be found within one year, tear it down and clean off the property. If this is rental property, the owners must be held accountable. This is totally unacceptable.
There are many people in South Greenwood who have put their life savings into preserving their home, only to see their property values go down, simply because the house next door is all boarded up. This is also dangerous, because sometimes unknown people sleep in these empty houses. At night, it is simply a black hole that you don’t want to walk by.
This is one of the great concerns of the voters in Greenwood. Let’s clean up the whole city. One block at a time, I believe it can be done.

Mayor’s race
Folks don’t like it when you use your brain and think for yourself.
In the last four years, Greenwood has made significant progress. Don’t vote for a candidate because of the color of his or her skin. Vote for progress.
It’s not about the number of degrees you have. It’s about being able to relate to the citizens.
Sheriel Perkins lost the mayor’s race four years ago, disappeared and then said God told her to come back. I think he said, “Get back.”
I know of a lot of qualified black people who can run and win. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Feeling some kind of way lied on God

Tim Kalich mentioned in his op-ed column (“Husband is liability in comeback effort,” Jan. 13) that Rep. Willie Perkins had taken on some fights with the two Abrahams.
We all know that Sam is running the county and Lee is running the city.
South Greenwood is still waiting to hear why the young man who was shot and killed in the “Market Street Mayhem” was not turned over to police and sent to jail when he attempted to sell his weapon to Attorney Abraham.
This situation still smells. Is the attorney general considered law enforcement?
