Early College
I am hoping that Mississippi Valley State University’s latest effort in collaboration with the Greenville School District’s Early College program does not distract from my alma mater being deemed a university. What happened to dual enrollment? What happened to the Greenville Higher Education Center?
We parents are sending our children to MVSU with the intention that his university is utilizing all of its limited resources toward their success and retention, with the ultimate goal of graduation. Also lately safety has become another major concern.
Everyone is aware of the challenges of attracting new students at MVSU. I know firsthand the challenges of competing after we get that degree.
I pray that trying to increase enrollment numbers at Valley with children who are still in high school will not reduce my beautiful HBCU into MVSH (Mississippi Valley State High School).
MVSU 4EVER
Oxford
Regarding the article “An ‘underrated’ city” (Aug. 25):
Oxford’s charms became so well-known that they hardly exist anymore due to the huge influx of people moving there to enjoy the largely no-longer-existent charms.

Sammy Foster
Regarding the article “Foster: Don’t blame us for problems” (Aug. 24):
I think Sammy Foster should step down as chairman of the Greenwood Leflore Hospital Board. It’s time for new vision. Maybe Freddie White-Johnson should be the board chairperson.

State lottery
Regarding the article “Lottery, tax bills advance” (Aug. 24):
Sen. Philip Moran, I, for one, have not been waiting on the lottery. I have seen what gambling can do to people.
