Carroll politics
In response to Ruthie Amos’ letter to the editor (“Ex-teacher insults with racial appeal,” Aug. 23):
When critiquing and judging Barbara Jacquline Burkhead Tate, be sure you’re not at fault in your conscience and your actions.
Mrs. Tate is very active behind and in front of the scenes in the community. You may want to venture outside of your community and become involved in more than one part of the county. Mrs. Tate has helped those in the area without recognition or applause. You should be more respectful to the person who helped build your educational foundation.

Preston Ratliff
Regarding the article “Ratliff challenges result” (Aug. 23):
Leflore County Supervisor Preston Ratliff just can’t take defeat. He needs to worry about if he is going to keep his job in the county while he is trying to recount some votes. Anjuan Brown should be his last worry.
Ratliff has done nothing anyway. So all he does is lose, lose, lose, no matter what. Money is definitely on his mind, and I see he’s not giving up.

Election results
It sure was nice being able to get the election results Tuesday night in such a timely manner, instead of having to wait on one of the local TV stations to get them posted.
Thanks, Commonwealth. Y’all did good!

Payroll tax cut
Regarding the editorial “Don’t extend payroll tax cut” (Aug. 22):
You have to be kidding. Those of us who work for a living are more concerned about how we will make it tomorrow, not about long- term Social Security.
We not only want a payroll tax cut. We need it.
I have an idea. Give up your tax cut that Bush gave you.
