Hospital & highway
After reading the paper over the last couple of days, I am dismayed and disheartened. How can our community prosper and grow if some members of the Greenwood Leflore Hospital Board, suffering from “ostrich syndrome,” bury their head in the sand and miss a golden opportunity to save our hospital while at the same time employees of the sheriff’s departments and the Mississippi Highway Patrol seem lackadaisical about following up, or even logging in, valid and repeated reports of dangerous criminal activity along U.S. 49 south of town.
As concerned citizens, we must get involved by contacting the hospital’s board members for an explanation of their shortsightedness and to interact with the law enforcement leadership for details as to just how multiple complaints spanning almost a month were “misplaced,” not recorded or ignored. Complacency is not an option.

GOP leadership
I wrote to your paper years ago that the day would come when the Republicans would control all aspects of our state government and at that time all will realize that we are not a Republican state because we cannot survive under Republican policies of taking from the poor and giving to the rich.
Mississippi is a poor state, and the Republicans always make the poor poorer, so I am not surprised that we have no money for anything.
I also wrote to you, telling you that we as a country deserve Donald Trump and Trump deserves America because all lies will be reviled.
If it weren’t for Trump, all of the crooked people whom he has brought into our government would still be out doing crooked things and getting away with it. Because of the spotlight of the presidency, Trump will be rewarded with the bad fruit of his bad labor.
Overcharged tags
Regarding the article “Many paid too much for car tags” (Aug. 11):
I was overcharged $300 last year for my car tag. After calling and questioning, two months later I did get a refund.
Makes you wonder how many didn’t get refunded.
