Fatal shooting
The writer of the article “Man shot to death on Jackson St.” (Nov. 27) should be ashamed. No one is perfect, and what the people of the community want to know is if there are any leads to this case.

What does this young man’s past experiences with the law have to do with losing his life. Instead of scrutinizing his life history, find those who are responsible for this crime.
A person’s life is something that cannot be replaced, once it has been stolen from them. That’s right. People are stealing each other’s life and thinking they have gotten away with something.

I have to agree with most of the other comments on Repredto Reed. It seems to me you have convicted him on every arrest without due process. I thought “innocent until proven guilty” was still the rule, but maybe not if you work for this newspaper.
I don’t know Charlie Smith. I did know Repredto, and he was never anything but a hard-working, helpful, polite and nice man.
Digging up his past serves no good purpose.

I am sure that most of us have a past that is not too pretty. But as humans and Christians, we should have some kind of empathy for the family.
Whatever Repredto Reed did in his past, whether good or bad, is not up for discussion.
A family has lost a loved one. To have his criminal record thrown in their face is not going to help them with grieving or funeral costs.

The point here is, if you lead the kind of life this young man led, there is a good chance you will end up this way.
The tough don’t always get out of this world in a peaceful manner.

Social dysfunction
It’s very sad that strong leaders such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and others died fighting for our rights and freedom, and the corners and low-income projects like Hayes Homes, Brazil and G.P. are full every day with young people.
Black males need to stop claiming this side of the town because it belongs to the city and county. Men need to step up and be the father for these children who are growing up without one. There are so many single mothers raising their kids because of the lack of help from these “boys.” I say not “men” because it takes a real man to raise a family.
Not only the males have problems. Some men hang on the corner while some women sit at home. The same way the system makes the men go to work to take care of their kids, it needs to do the same with the women. If these young women are not disabled or their children are not totally disabled, let them get up and go to work instead of waiting on the government and their kids’ child support.
