Karl Oliver
The recent comments by state Rep. Karl Oliver have led me, a lifelong Republican, to believe that the people of my district may have made a grave error by choosing whom we give our representation power to.
Gov. Phil Bryant, House Speaker Philip Gunn and the entire Mississippi Republican Party have hung their heads in pure embarrassment over this debacle.
The Clarion-Ledger had an editorial in last Wednesday’s paper calling for the GOP leaders and the state party itself to recruit a candidate to run against Oliver.
I honestly believe that Ken Strachan would be an excellent candidate to run against Karl Oliver in the 2019 primary. Ken has been a public servant for close to 20 years. He has the experience and grace to be our representative. He is a conservative, always has been. He has the quality morals that would allow for our district to prosper. I believe he could be the perfect example of a candidate the modern-day GOP should be looking for.
Out with Karl, in with Ken 2019!

Republican House Speaker Philip Gunn took the vice chairmanship of the Forestry Committee from Rep. Karl Oliver after the latest round of shame Oliver has brought on himself and our area.
Having a legislator to gain seniority is important. Oliver is in such a bad shape that he has lost respect from the GOP leadership and will never be able to gain a position of importance to effectively serve this area.
If he doesn’t resign, come the next election he needs to be replaced with someone who will devote his or her energy to serving the people, instead of being a national embarrassment like he has shown so many times.

Litter
My path goes by West Barton Avenue and Clerico Park. More times than not it appears two or more vehicles park to eat and litter the area.
Walking to the trash can after eating, which isn’t 20 feet away, would be good exercise.
Greenwood has a premium anti-litter/recycle program. It would help if everyone would “pitch in.”
