Bloated voter rolls
Regarding the recent article in the paper about 16 counties in Mississippi having more people on the voter rolls than lived in the county: Without finishing the article, I knew Leflore was one of the counties. Duh!
Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann and Assistant Secretary Heath Hillman voiced their concerns when I discussed the matter with them. My question was, What can be done? Lots of people have suggestions and ideas.
On the very first page of our voter walking list are roughly 80 names. In the telephone book, 10 of them had phones. Now I realize lots of people no longer have land lines, but could possibly 70 of them be on the first page of our voter list? I think not.
After much thought and much conversation with many people, I have come to the conclusion that our Election Commission in Leflore County is not doing its job. I could be wrong, as I have been many times in my life.
This is an election year, and we need lots of changes in all phases of our government. America is going the wrong way. What did we do wrong?
I will not live to see us hit bottom, but my grandchildren do not deserve to be left with a $15 trillion debt. Very few in Washington seem interested in doing anything to lower this amount. Certainly not our president, who spends more each day than most people in Mississippi see in a lifetime.
In November, let’s all go and vote every one of them out of office.

Murdered students
Regarding the article “Slain JSU student’s family from city” (March 26):
Such a shocker! I know this family personally. I pray for this entire family for its loss and the pain caused in their members’ lives.

I am an outraged teen. I am distraught about the murders occurring these days. This is a mess.
Why do we kill? Why can’t we all get along. This is an outrage that I am sick of. We should all be reminded of WWJD.
Hemingway pothole
I hope the runners in the Viking Half Marathon don’t go down Hemingway Street.
There’s a pothole in the 1300 block of Hemingway that’s large enough to swallow a freight train. It’s been there for about four months.
The Greenwood Street Department has attempted to fix it once or twice but did a cruddy job. Someone who knows what they are doing needs to come fix it for good.
It’s funny how the city can find the time and money for all these community events, but it can’t find the time and money to fix a pothole.
