Troy Brown
Regarding Troy Brown’s op-ed column (“More work for Dr. Smith to do,” Dec. 4):
Mr. Brown, I cannot be the only reader of the Commonwealth who has grown tired of reading your take on the state of affairs in the city and county. Your opinions carry no weight. They only serve to show your apparent detachment from reality.
To equate Dr. Arnold Smith’s support of right being done by the voters to “Uncle Tom-ism” can only be categorized by one word: foolish.
Please be reminded that the election scheme that transpired put several citizens’ freedom on the line. For you to stand in support of such blatant disrespect for the law and disregard for the well-being of the people only shows why you have been so non-competitive in your own political pursuits. You just don’t seem to have a clear concept of right and wrong.
Please put your computer away, or at least stop submitting columns to the Commonwealth. We would all be better for it.
Christmas parade
Although there were many wonderful moments during this year’s Christmas parade, I feel like it missed its mark. As Santa appeared, I did not get that “what a wonderful parade ... that was awesome” sensation. I wanted to, but it wasn’t there. The ride home was not filled with the usual excitement.
I will say my 2-year-old grandson joyously danced as the bands performed. That was the highlight of my band night.
I hate when people fill the middle of Grand Boulevard, blocking the view from the sides. People with very small children or challenged family members may not feel comfortable sitting that close to the “action.” The Beacon Harbor family was located on a corner of Grand, with very little viewing due to those standing in its path.

Payroll tax cut
Regarding the editorial “Getting hooked on payroll tax cut” (Dec. 2):
I have said before, give up the tax cuts that George W. Bush gave you. You have had them longer.
I never read where you said that your tax cut was bad for the country. Tell your congressman that you think that your tax cut is bad and you want to give it up.
Until you do, you should not write about how bad the tax cut for working people is.

Blues fest
Regarding the letter to the editor from Collin Jordan (“Nothing wrong with a little booty-shaking,” Dec. 1):
Could you not start your sentence every time with Mrs. Buckner? If she left the Leflore County Civic Center because she didn’t like the gyrating, booty-rubbing and groping that were going on, then that was her right.

Regarding the article “Elzy band up for Fla. trip” (Nov. 6):
I am so proud of those kids.
