Kalich column
Regarding Tim Kalich’s column (“What Greenwood offers,” Dec. 8):
This is why I’ve struggled in my decision to move back closer to home. I want that kind of community (and to live around people who actually have manners), but I don’t want to drive two hours to see a specialist, which my mother does.
I also like going to places on a whim, such as IKEA or Target, and you certainly can’t do that in Greenwood. If you want to go somewhere with the least bit of excitement, it’s an all-day affair.
I’m no party person. I just want options. I guess we can’t have it both ways. When a town gets big enough, people start to isolate themselves to their own tight circles, and everyone else becomes a stranger.
I guess in my case I can’t go home again, and until then I don’t have one.

Guenther letter
Regarding Clint Guenther’s letter to the editor (“Why keep digging up ‘public hanging’ quip?” Dec. 13):
Someone should remind him that the lynching of blacks took place in Mississippi and not in Auschwitz. The reaction you can expect from glorifying lynching, which is what Cindy Hyde-Smith did, and glorifying the use of the gas chamber is based upon where you are located at the time of the comments. Auschwitz has no connections with lynching, Mississippi does.
If one has to compare apples with oranges to justify their views, clearly their views are wrong.
