Hospital board
The University of Mississippi Medical Center has pulled out of its proposed alliance with Greenwood Leflore Hospital due to the impossibility of dealing with the three remaining GLH board members, who are unwilling to have their power and authority threatened.
The GLH board has been interfering with hospital operations by micromanaging on an almost daily basis — interfering with the CEO in hiring and firing, protecting certain “chosen ones” who do poor work but cannot be fired or disciplined because of their special status.
GLH had an excellent CEO, Jerry Adams, who was very effective at keeping the board’s meddling at bay. The board succeeded in getting rid of him.
Jim Jackson, its most recent victim, was doing a good job as the next CEO. The board fired him.
UMMC could have provided effective management but withdrew because of our impossibly intrusive board. Life’s too short to put up with such foolishness.

I live in one of the surrounding counties. I have been very impressed with the medical staff of Greenwood Leflore Hospital. The physicians whom I have had dealings with personally or when I have accompanied a family member or a friend to appointments or if they were a patient are excellent. If for some reason we had to come to the emergency room, the level of care and compassion exhibited there has been bar none.
I do not understand the reasoning behind the current hospital board’s decision to not affiliate with University of Mississippi Medical Center. In my opinion, this would only raise the bar and give our area access to an even better level of care.
I do not want to travel to other areas for routine tests and doctor’s appointments. There are those in our area who do not have the ways or means to go to larger cities for medical care. I wish there was a “do over.”

We should all feel somewhat better now that Donald Trump, Kellyanne Conway and Rudy Giuliani have assured us that they are utilizing alternative facts to get at the truth, which isn’t truth. All Americans may breathe easier and sleep at peace knowing that these unwavering patriots are on the job.
