Russell Building
Our state elected officials, those who are sent to Jackson to stand for the prosperity of “all” the people of our area, recently voted down or did not let it get to the proper board the resolution to allow for a hotel-motel tax that would have allowed some of the funding for the restoration of the Russell Building.
It is all about “power and politics” and not “people and progress.”
This building is an important piece to the development that is now going on in downtown Greenwood. It could be a prime facility for reunions of all sorts, small conventions, chamber of commerce functions, etc., that could help revitalize “both” sides of the tracks, so to speak.
Rep. Willie Perkins and Sen. David Jordan want it to fail because it will have to be bought back by Lee Abraham if the folks who are for “people and progress” can’t get the funding.
Shame on them!
Margie Pulley
It is a shame that Margie Pulley, who distinguished herself with nearly 40 years of service to the education of our children, so badly tarnished that record by retiring as Greenwood school superintendent with virtually no notice to her superiors.
What an unacceptably poor example Dr. Pulley has set for our children by choosing to end her dedicated career with such a lack of common courtesy to her employer.
Disappointed in Margie
Crime raids
It was extremely funny that Jim Clayton wore a shirt with the words “Just Run” while being arrested (“Raids target gangs,” Aug. 31):
However, I am sure the comment in “My Two Cents” (Sept. 5) that Mr. Clayton should have taken the advice of his shirt was meant to be funny.
In the event that it was not meant to be funny, it was not good advice. Mr. Clayton did exactly what he was suppose to do: stand and take responsibility for the foolish mistake.
