Market St. mayhem
I am writing in regard to the protests that some of the Greenwood citizens have been putting on.
First and foremost, I would like to ask, What is the purpose? We, as black people, must think before making moves like this. What is racist about this entire situation and how could you rally for something that is so unjust?
The young men should have known something was not right in the beginning. There’s no way you can have me at a lawyer's office at 9 p.m. and I not think something was suspicious.
Let's be real, people. Greenwood has black-on- black crimes quite often, and no one does this for that. But as soon as a white person is involved, you want to scream racism.
There are others things we should be doing in the community and teaching our youth instead of having them involved in something they have no clue about (the kids in the rallies). I am truly ashamed of how the people from my hometown are reacting.
Yes, there are a lot of unanswered questions, and this is very deep, but justice for those two is bizarre. It is a shame that Keaira Byrd’s life was taken, but we have a mind of our own and sometimes we choose our way out and other times it is unpredictable.
I am praying for the families and the city.

Whites in Greenwood are in opposition to Dr. Arnold Smith because of his political affiliations.

Itta Bena
Regarding the comment in “My Two Cents” May 8 about Itta Bena:
I, too, am a resident of Itta Bena, and I feel the same way.
Our streets are getting worse by the day. But if the mayor doesn't care about the town, then what do you do?
Yes, we can have clean-up projects, but how many people will actually participate? Surely the ones that need to won't.
We, as homeowners, should take pride in our neighborhoods and clean them up. It's our hometown, and we should be proud of it.
Sure, the mayor has faults, but what else do you expect? He really doesn't care about Itta Bena.
Wake up, people. Election time is right around the corner.
Vote, vote, vote.
