Carroll jail
I would like to commend Carroll County Supervisor Rickey Corley for having the courage to question some of the things happening behind the scenes at the Carroll-Montgomery Regional Correctional Facility. Also to be commended is Commonwealth Managing Editor Charles Corder for his spot-on op-ed column regarding the same facility (“Troubles mounting at regional lockup,” March 2).
Had it not been for Mr. Corley questioning the decision to allow a correctional facility officer to simply resign rather than be terminated for what amounts to prosecutable offenses, all of this would have simply been swept under the rug.
We, the citizens of Carroll County, have the right to know the things happening at what is supposed to be a secure jail. It makes you wonder just what other shenanigans are happening there that no one ever finds out about.
Administrative bloat
I would like to awaken taxpayers who seem to be asleep.
In the school system, it takes two or more people to do each job. Note that anyone with authority has an assistant.
The superintendent has a secretary and an assistant. Each school principal has office help and an assistant. Add all these salaries together and see that each job is costing more than $100,000 of tax money. Also note how many “honey money” positions have been created.
In the old days, one person was capable of doing what it now takes two or more to do. Everybody must have an assistant.
The school system always pour-mouths about the lack of money, even while receiving the largest piece of pie in the state budget. After reviewing all these honey jobs, we see that most of the funds go into the pockets of school employees.

Elzy championship
Leflore County Supervisor Phil Wolfe voted against putting up a billboard to honor the student-athletes at Amanda Elzy High School.
What is he thinking? Remember this fact at the polls.
Congrats, Panthers, you represented Greenwood and Leflore County well.
