Election results
After reading the Commonwealth’s editorial “No consistency in GOP results” (June 11), I simply believe it is common sense as to why Eric Cantor was defeated in Virginia and why Thad Cochran is struggling to hold onto his Senate seat.
Americans are fed up with the fiscal irresponsibility in Washington. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know you won’t be in business long if you spend a nickel to make a penny. A balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution would definitely put our country back on track.
I know, I’m dreaming again, but it’s a good dream, not the nightmare we are living now with $17 trillion in debt.
As President Obama stated Tuesday after yet another school shooting, “Americans have some soul-searching to do.” We as Mississippians do, too. We don’t need the tea party or career politicians to know what’s best for this country. Am I rambling again?

Prisoner swap
This is in response to the editorial “Obama botches prisoner swap” (June 10):
The prisoner exchange that took place is not the problem. The one who brokered the deal is President Obama.
Congress knew ever since 2011 about this. There is nothing new here. The very same senators who are coming unglued now were calling in February on President Obama to do something about Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl. The amount of selective amnesia here is astounding.
Also, if President Obama were concerned about political risk, we wouldn’t have the Affordable Care Act, Osama bin Laden would still be alive, and the auto industry would be in the tank. He was advised not to do any of these things because of how they would look politically.

New PA coach
Regarding the article “Pillow hires new baseball coach” (June 11):
Good choice. Pillow Academy is very lucky to get Jud Thigpen.
