Hospital layoffs
Regarding the recent layoffs at Greenwood Leflore Hospital and the contract nurses:
My way of thinking is if the hospital would pay the nurses what they deserve, it wouldn’t need contract nurses coming in from the Philippines at $45 an hour.
Leflore County has gone to the dogs. They had rather bring in foreigners than take care of their own people.
And the hospital board approved this. Every one of them who voted for this needs to be fired as soon as possible.
It sounds just like President Obama sending millions of dollars to other countries while people in the U.S. are starving.

Softball team photo
Regarding the softball team photo commented on in “My Two Cents” (July 6) by No More Sad Check:
The picture that was used in the June 30 newspaper was a banner photo that a lot of teams use to take to tournaments, etc. They are usually fun, sassy photos where the girls are posed to look tough and intimidating. It is meant all in fun.
Notice the July 5 picture of this same team. It is just a regular team picture taken after a tournament. The whole team is smiling.
Whether you donate in the future or not, please know these kids are having a ball. If they didn’t love it they wouldn’t be playing at the level they are.

Parking complaint
Regarding the complaint about disparate treatment over parking in Whittington Park for two recent events:
As to Greenwood City Council President Ronnie Stevenson’s comment that there were many children at the “I'm So Greenwood” event, I guess no children were allowed at the Greenwood Balloon and Music Fest, but I could have sworn that I saw many.
His explanation of why cars were allowed to park at the park during the Balloon Fest and not the “I’m So Greenwood” event doesn’t hold water.
