Mayor’s race
Question for Tim Kalich after his op-ed column (“Husband is liability in comeback effort,” Jan. 13):
Who is running for mayor, Willie Perkins or Sheriel Perkins? Is Sheriel responsible for his actions as state representative.
You referred to Lee Abraham as Carolyn McAdams’ “longtime friend and political supporter.” This association will not get the mayor 14 percent of the black vote.
•••
Sheriel Perkins was not an effective mayor when she was in office. No other mayor in recent memory has accomplished what Carolyn McAdams has for Greenwood.
It looks like her critics are using race and paranoia as their criteria to decide on whom to support for mayor. They complain about Sam and Lee Abraham, but they never say exactly what their beef is with them. I don’t think they even know.

DA’s request
Regarding the article “Board questions DA’s request for help” (Jan. 14):
District Attorney Dewayne Richardson should ask the Leflore County Sheriff’s Department and the Greenwood Police Department for assistance. They’re the ones who detain, arrest and charge whomever they choose with felonies without evidence or reliable witnesses. They send them to the DA to prosecute, just to have a grand jury throw the case out or just drop charges.
It’s a shame because 90 percent of those prosecuted are African-American males whose families can’t afford legal counsel to help them. Lawmen know this. They just want to look like they’re solving cases in order to keep their jobs.
Please don’t help the DA continue to practice this by giving more money.
MPACT’s plight
In response to the editorial “MPACT must change or die” (Jan. 14):
You should save this editorial for future use. Just change MPACT to Social Security or Medicare or Medicaid and change state to federal. You will save yourself a lot of time writing about what has to be done to save these programs.
Of course, no one will listen. We Americans are so spoiled. There is no way we will allow our government to cut social welfare and retirement programs in order to save their very existence. How absurd to think the government would cut my baby mama’s check!
Do they think I’m gonna support them? Not! I’m waiting on Obamacare so I can have insurance!
