Karl Morgan
Regarding the article “Valley fires its football coach” (Dec. 8):
I am very disappointed after hearing the news that Karl Morgan was dismissed as Mississippi Valley State University’s football coach.
I am aware that the wins were not there, and the program has not moved forward as much as we expected, and I’m sure not as much as he would have liked it to. But, considering all of the facts, the conditions and the circumstances surrounding Valley’s Athletic Department, including a couple of years of stadium renovation, I believe Coach Morgan did an admirable job. From an alumni and a fan perspective, we could at least begin to see a solid foundation being laid.
Valley played competitive football in nearly every game it played. When you factor in the restricted practice time due to the APR and the limited resources, including coaches, facilities and the limitations on scholarship players, one can reasonably conclude that he outcoached the support and resources he had available to him.

Fundraising
Recently I visited a business establishment for services, services that were to be paid for upon receipt. I was surprised when the owner instructed her child to give me a form soliciting for a fundraiser.
As a parent, I remember fondly when our children had fundraisers. My husband and I would bundle them up and canvass the neighborhood and beyond to see if anyone was interested in purchasing goods from us. We sold cookies, fruit, candy, etc. It taught our children pride and responsibility.
Nowadays, parents are too lazy to get out and do fundraisers. They would rather put their patrons on the spot in their businesses or harass co-workers. I, for one, am offended when this occurs.
If I am expected to pay for services rendered, I expect not to be solicited while waiting to be served.
Let us work in peace without soliciting.
