Greenwood police
I sympathize with the young lady who was sober and harassed by the Greenwood Police Department (“My Two Cents,” July 23).
I was pulled over for a mere traffic violation — speeding. Before I knew it, I was surrounded by four police cars, one being a DUI unit. While one officer was writing the citation for speeding, it was obvious I was not to say anything as I was being stared down by another officer, hands folded across his body, daring me to speak or act any way out of order, as it would get me into trouble. Very disturbing to be treated this way. Very intimidating.
The very next day, a friend was returning from the washateria with his wife and children. He was stopped for a broken light, and he was put to the sobriety test, treated very rudely with his family there, and he was sober as one could be.
I do understand they have to get minor traffic violators, too, but they could act professionally with a little bit of courtesy and save the harassment for the real criminals.

Ole Fox is telling those who are not paying attention that your lifestyle is about to change.
The drought and hot weather are bringing critical misery to us all. Fuel and food prices are going out of sight. That $6-a-gallon gas is not too far away, if you can get it.
I would advise people to buy long shelf-life products such as dried beans, peas and rice.
Note the 16 pages of delinquent taxes in the Commonwealth this past Monday that people are unable to pay. People are hurting, and I don’t see things getting better.
Lakes and streams are drying up all over the country. Everywhere I travel, people state that business is very slow and folks are out of work.
When Uncle Sugar’s money-printing machines can’t keep up with spending, these giveaway programs will dry up.
The wheels are coming off of the world economy.

ER misuse
Regarding the article “Insurance costs to increase 25%” (July 7):
Maybe the Leflore County employees going to the emergency room for petty reasons should be held accountable for the full cost of the visit. But instead, the ones who use the insurance for the right reasons are paying for it.
