Hospital board
Regarding the op-ed column by Tim Kalich (“What Foster could have said,” Aug. 25):
Yes, Sammy Foster could have, and should have, said all those things. But to do so would have required leadership, a quality that none of the Greenwood Leflore Hospital Board members seem to display in these trying times.
Kudos to the group of concerned citizens who attended the hospital board meeting and asked thoughtful and respectful questions.
As taxpayers of Greenwood and Leflore County, the citizens are part-owners of the hospital and deserve an equally thoughtful and respectful response from the hospital board. Citizens should not stop asking questions until they get some answers. The future of our hospital is too important to be apathetic on this issue.
To quote the cultural anthropologist Margaret Mead, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

Regarding Tommy Gary’s letter to the editor (“Why has it taken so long to hire CEO?” Aug. 29):
He poses a good question for the Greenwood Leflore Hospital Board. I would like to know the answer to that myself, as I'm sure others would, too.

I was in that hospital in Grenada. Don’t let those people have the Greenwood hospital.
William Brewer
If William Brewer, the ex-sheriff of Tallahatchie County, can get out of jail for a drug arrest and get a $25,000 bail and house arrest, it is only fair that all drugs sellers and users who go before the judge who gave such light restrictions receive the same treatment. What a joke.
Everyone charged with a criminal drug offense should be treated the same, but we all know that is not the case, especially in Mississippi.
What makes this so disgusting is Brewer was supposed to enforce the laws. I wonder how many he has arrested for doing what he is charged with doing? How many more sheriffs will go down?
