Hospital board
In response to the article “Hospital board questioned on demise of UMMC affiliation” (Aug. 22):
As a concerned citizen of Leflore County, I see an incompetent hospital board making irrational decisions about a community hospital we all depend on. None of the three board members has the knowledge to make the decisions for the hospital. They should be removed immediately.
If the Greenwood City Council and Leflore County Board of Supervisors don't act aggressively on removing these incompetent board members, they will be to blame for the loss of our hospital. It’s obvious the hospital board members do not have GLH’s best interest at heart!

I just want to see if I have this straight.
Greenwood Leflore Hospital has a board that is now composed of three members. These three board members, all fine people I am sure, have met on at least two occasions to determine whether to contract in some manner with University of Mississippi Medical Center. This board was unable to come up with any decision.
My take on this matter is that this board does not want to have its power weakened in any way. Right now the board members are all-powerful.
UMMC proposed a 10- member board to make future decisions for the hospital. I believe that this 10-member board is the very reason the Greenwood Leflore Hospital Board’s remaining members dragged their feet. They wanted to keep the power.
I believe Greenwood deserves some entity guiding the hospital that actually knows how to run a hospital. Not just for their ego.
