Cancer seminar
For all those who missed the colon cancer seminar held Saturday, July 28, at Monument of Grace Church, you missed a wealth of information that was geared to save your life.
The Rev. Lee Jessie Johnson and Pastor Ethel King have opened Monument of Grace to the community by extending their outreach toward not only saving souls but also saving lives. Praise God for two wonderful pastors who are making a difference in the lives of those who are suffering from cancer and for those who are potential victims of this dreadful disease.
I pray that every person who attended this life-saving event shares the information that was presented by the speakers — Dr. Roy Duhé, Sen. David Jordan, Freddie White-Johnson and Mary McGee, who is a colon cancer survivor. They all provided life-saving information.
I also appreciate the free colon cancer booklets, which I will read and pass on to a family member to read.

I enjoyed the colon cancer program at Monument of Grace Church on July 28. It was my first time attending or hearing about Monument of Grace. It is good that this church is doing things in the community to help people like me learn about cancer.
The keynote speaker, Dr. Roy Duhé, told us that colon cancer comes from polyps in the colon. The information he talked about was new to me. I didn’t know anything about polyps, how colon cancer develops or how it’s prevented. Now I know.
Since hearing his presentation, I have called my doctor and scheduled a colon cancer screening.
Voter ID
Regarding the editorial “More exaggeration about voter ID” (July 30):
Why don’t the Republicans pass laws that serve the many, and not just the rich few? Then they won’t have to be afraid of working people voting against them.
Oh, yeah, we already have the Democratic Party, which works for all, rich and poor alike.
I guess the only chance the Republicans have of getting votes is to put working whites and working blacks against each other. How sad.
