Doc vs. cop
Regarding the article “Doctor clashes with officer” (April 27):
The actions of this patrolman are a disgrace. Why on earth would he feel the need to arrest and handcuff Dr. Arnold Smith for minor traffic infractions on deserted streets during severe weather?
If Michael Baldwin wanted to issue citations, he could simply have done so without treating Dr. Smith like a dangerous common criminal. I agree with Dr. Smith’s assessment that this policeman is a bully with a badge — with no judgment, I might add.
If Baldwin followed Greenwood Police Department standard procedures, as stated by Chief Henry Purnell, the mayor and City Council need to require that those procedures be changed. Baldwin’s demeanor and conduct appear more appropriate for a prison guard than a community police officer.

Wouldn’t you think a 69-year-old white-headed guy getting out of a Lexus who openly acknowledges breaking the law would have better sense than run to the public to make the infantile attempt to excuse his elitist behavior? I think he deserves some jail time.
Imagine him thinking he’s better than the law. Last time I checked, the laws were made for idiots like him.
Storm or no storm, his wife lived in tornado alley for many, many years. She can get to the storm shelter just fine.

Carl Winters’ letter
Regarding Carl Winters April 14 letter to the editor (“Don’t ignore stranger in God’s house”):
To me, this letter Mr. Winters wrote was a brave thing to do. I respect his concern for his soul.
I can tell it came from his heart because of how he put his words together, not calling names and always saying he loves his church and pastor.
I agree with Mr. Winters when he said, When you start understanding God’s words, you can see better what’s going on and what God wants us to do.
To you, Mr. Winters, remember your father’s words. “Keep on keeping on.” Help will come.
