Schools’ budget
Regarding the article “Council OKs budgets for city, schools” (Sept. 7):
If my calculator is correct, $25 million for the Greenwood School District comes to more than $8,000 per student.
My question is, Who is accountable for this money? Where were they when the City Council was asked to approve the budget? Next question: When are they getting their termination papers?
This is yet another example of how careless people are with the taxpayers’ money and how Councilman David Jordan thinks this behavior is excusable.
Since Jordan said the City Council had to approve the schools’ budget in the school officials’ absence, I assume he doesn’t mind being accountable for how it’s spent.
Just so everyone knows, it’s actually costing more for public education with poor results than private education with excellent results. This is absolutely unacceptable, and yet nothing is done.

Ratliff v. Brown
Regarding the article “Democrats render split decision” (Sept. 8):
Did Willie L. Brown really testify, or should I say admit, to voter bribery? I guess we will be reading about his trial soon, right?
The U.S. Congress has prohibited the conspiracy to encourage illegal voting and stated that anyone who “pays or offers to pay or accepts payment either for registration to vote or for voting shall be fined not more than $10,000 or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.”
I think his $7 or $8 should cover him.

Deputies’ shooting
Regarding the shooting by Carroll County deputies at an occupied vehicle in Carroll County:
Y’all know those dudes had no business shooting at anybody’s car. That’s just wrong.
Stop crime at all costs, but remember a bullet doesn’t have a name on it. By doing that, you were acting just like these ragamuffins and so-called thugs.
I thought the goal was to get thugs off the street, but I see now they are on the police force.
Lead by example, not a negative example.
