School merger
Regarding the article “Senate panel OKs merger” (March 22)
Why wait? Jennifer Wilson will soon be in place as Greenwood school superintendent. Appoint a board, assign students and teachers to schools, establish the bus routes and lets begin a new 2016-2017 school year.
Greenwood’s schools are not in much better shape than Leflore’s. Leflore is under conservatorship. The steady decline of the past many years of both districts is a signal there needs to be change.
The consolidation is going to happen. The children should be the focus of this issue, not David Jordan, Willie Perkins or Robert Moore and their self-serving politics.

Regarding the article “Officials hail delay of proposed merger” (March 23):
Once again King David has found a way to keep Greenwood stuck in the ’60s.
Why should the school system have to wait to grow? One school system equals students being in a 6A distract, which means the sports programs will be better and the school will have more classes to offer to the students.

Perkins appeal
Regarding the article “Perkins to appeal election verdict” (Mar. 25):
And the Sore Loser Award goes to ... Sheriel Perkins!
With little more than a year left in Mayor Carolyn McAdams’ second term, it seems pointless for Perkins to keep appealing this case. Even if Perkins were to win the appeal, which is unlikely, the city of Greenwood would have to hold a new election between Perkins and McAdams, which would give the winner of that contest less than a year to serve the remainder of the term before the next mayoral election in June 2017.
When will Perkins concede the fact that she lost? My guess is that the Perkins family is less interested in actually winning the legal battle and more interested in causing as much financial harm to McAdams as possible.
Nobody likes a sore loser, which is perhaps why the Perkins family has lost more elections than they have won lately.
