Viking expansion
The nerve of Rep. Linda Whittington to propose this bill when Mississippi is dead last in educating children, dead first in enacting and proposing inane laws, when many of the state’s citizens are without medical insurance and there are still areas without safe water and indoor toilets. The nerve!
Viking lays off 175, then the state pays them to hire 120? How can you live with yourself, Ms. Whittington?
I am quite sure that $12 million can be used to help Mississippi shake the backward noose around its neck.

How much more can a company improve on a refrigerator? Just how many bells and whistles does one need just to own a refrigerator that has the Viking name emblazoned on it?
People with money and definitely no common sense, in my opinion.

Percy Powell
Regarding the comments in “My Two Cents” about Greenwood High School Principal Percy Powell (Feb. 26 and 27):
The facts, as I understand them, are: Greenwood High is a failing school, and the principal of the school is responsible for recommending or not recommending teachers who are not doing their job.
Parents should be more concerned about raising test scores and not saving adult jobs. There is a history of politics in this town.
I like Mr. Powell, but I love my child more. And my support is behind the school district and the school board.

David Jordan
Regarding the David Jordan article (“Senator shares memories,” Feb. 23):
Hundreds, including myself, could write this book.
I am white and grew up in the hills. We did the same thing David Jordan did, however we did have better schools. I only got two spankings in my school.
At least we all worked and are better for it.
David made it and I made it. I am thankful.
