Confederate holiday
Regarding the article “Moore attacks Confederate holiday again” (June 28):
Wayne Self and Anjuan Brown, be responsible enough to say where you stand. To say “It’s an election year” is the most asinine response you could have given. Don’t straddle the fence. Your Republican counterparts didn’t straddle the fence.
I wonder if Sam Abraham would have made the same statement if he were still campaigning as an independent and needed minority votes? Probably not.
It is not so much whether you are for or against the Confederate Memorial Day holiday. It’s about saying what you mean, and meaning what you say.

I agree wholeheartedly with T.W. Cooper’s letter to the editor (“County should scrap Confederate holiday,” July 1):
For Sam Abraham and Phil Wolfe to say that racism doesn’t exist is beyond belief. What it does tell us is they don’t see anything wrong with the status quo. I can see them both laughing as they said this.
Racism is overt and covert. Voters, now you know where things stand with Phil and Sam, especially since Sam is campaigning for the seat Phil currently holds.
Voters, I hope you know where Wayne Self and Anjuan Brown stand on this issue. After all, they want to wait until after the election to give their stance. That can only mean one thing.
Carroll schools
Regarding the article “Board to vote on 2015-16 budget July 9” (June 30):
Instead of hiring “several assistant coaches,” why don’t they concentrate on hiring “several teachers’ assistants” to reduce the student/teacher ratio in some of the classrooms, or buy books for the Marshall Elementary library. (Gosh, the librarian takes her own supplies and time to rebind books.)
The last time I checked, the Carroll County school system is in desperate need of making sure the students are well-educated.
