Consolidation
The “My Two Cents” comment Thursday by oralee11 on the proposed consolidation of Greenwood and Leflore County schools was right on the money.
David Jordan has no concern about the welfare of our children or district. The ole saying, “One bad apple can spoil the whole bunch,” is about to prove right.
Why in the world would anyone not fix the problems with Leflore County before combining it with Greenwood public schools? This is so wrong! Not only is it not fair to our children in Greenwood but to our teachers, superintendent and Greenwood School Board.
You are right, oralee11, when you said the motive behind David Jordan’s vote is to try to replace our school board with people he can control. He’s also trying to run Conservator Robert Strebeck off.
People in Leflore, better wake up about David Jordan quick!

The Greenwood School Board had at least two good reasons why this is a bad idea. The Leflore County conservator is not being given enough time to effect needed changes, and a new board will be learning to compromise just when decisive action is needed.
As voters, we can’t change the timetable, but we can and should elect the current Greenwood board as the new county board.

I think David Jordan and Bob Strebeck, along with Gray Tollison, should explain their actions in town hall meetings throughout Leflore County.
Strebeck needs to tell the community up front what he told the Rotarians and the Senate Education Committee. He also needs to tell them in the language he used at those venues. See how that goes over.
David Jordan needs to account for the sudden change of heart and what his incentives were in all of this.
It appears that something is being kept under wraps in this whole debacle. It seems like our political leaders have been bedazzled and bamboozled into thinking that they will get two new high schools if this deal goes through.
“Good Ole” Gray Tollison is setting the Greenwood district up for a state takeover, and he’s not promising much to get it either.

President’s house
With all the dust-up in “My Two Cents” regarding Mississippi Valley State University President William Bynum Jr.’s taste in furniture, at least he’s staying in the house.
The last president of the university was put up at The Alluvian hotel’s lofts.
Expensive furniture can be an investment. Paying rent cannot.
