Greenwood Acres
Regarding the editorial “Judge on facts, not racial prejudice” (April 7):
Let someone build a government-subsidized housing project next to your home, Mr. Editor, so we can see how fast you change your tune.
No one who is a homeowner in a quiet neighborhood would want it, and you know it. Your pious, holier-than-thou, ultra-liberal attitude is nothing more than a show for your readers.

Regarding the article, “Residents oppose seniors complex” (April 6):
The people who are displaying their racist ways are what’s wrong with Greenwood, Mississippi and the South.
I bet most of them go to church on Sunday and pray to a God, then leave and forget all about the Bible and being a Christian.

These pitiful people would never have to worry about any of my family members staying in this complex or even coming in their neighborhood. This right here is exactly what is wrong with this town.

County payroll
In the April 4 issue of the Commonwealth, we were told that the Leflore County Board of Supervisors had been advised not to raise minimum salaries greater than 3 percent, the rate of inflation. In a severe recession with many people looking for work, this suggestion seemed reasonable.
The Commonwealth then comments about the “smaller step” decision of the Board of Supervisors to raise the minimum salary of county workers by 10 percent to $8.
I am reminded of the story of how the worst student in the high school class returned to the class reunion in a large luxury car with a diamond ring. When asked how he had been so successful, his reply was, “I found this product I could buy for $10 and sell for $15, and that 50 percent just kept adding up.”
I wonder how many new county employees are needed to save money by keeping Leflore County growing. Nothing like prudent leadership.

Mario Branch
I went to Mississippi Valley State University with Mario Branch. He was a standout athlete as well as a “gentle giant.”
