Education in Delta
So we’ve got Rep. Linda Whittington from this area whining that she was “put off” the House Education Committee and publicly campaigning against charter schools. And we’ve got another state representative, Willie Perkins, offering to stall the takeover of the Leflore County School District and garner legal fees to oppose the very procedure the Legislature set up to deal with such failure. And we have a state Board of Education that fought tooth and nail against instituting a rating system parents could understand (A-F) instead of allowing schools to call themselves “successful” for being average.
What could possibly stop us from improving education in the Delta?
Just Sayin
Ted Cruz
The Republicans say that Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas is out of control. In my view, the whole party is out of control.
If Cruz runs for president, I think that he knows what he has to do to win the primary. And that is to say anything that is hateful and disrespectful about blacks and other non-whites. When he does that, Mississippi and other Southern states are guaranteed to vote for him.
He will not talk about policies that will help the country because the Republicans don’t want any policies that will help the country. The Republicans know that the majority of working people who vote for them do so out of hate for others. And when you have hate as a motivator, you don’t need policy.
They don’t have a plan. They just plan to be against any and everything.

Parole
Regarding the comment about parole in “My Two Cents” by S.P. (Sept. 20):
Instead of nonviolent people making bad choices, perhaps they could try making good choices and obey the law. Then they could be a good example to their children and not have to worry about parole.
