Troy Brown
What a thought-provoking submission to the editor by Troy Brown
(“My supporters are wise to Perkins,” Oct. 30). Very well
done.
Seniority, in a place such as Greenwood and Leflore County, should
be used by the challengers, not the incumbents. The bickering,
arguing and lack of leadership have produced an area of Mississippi
that offers very little to its inhabitants.
Visitors enjoy Greenwood, thanks to Fred Carl and Viking Range
Corp. Residents enjoy high unemployment, high taxes, bad roads and
little hope for positive change in the immediate future.
New leadership certainly might produce similar results, but could
it be worse? Blame, not praise, goes to the incumbent. Look what
seniority has gotten us so far.
Abortion
I, too, think women have the right to pierce, tattoo, cut or
whatever they want to do to their bodies. I don’t think any woman
has the right to kill a child, born or unborn.
There is a law that says you can’t kill someone. What makes you
think you have that right to kill a baby?
The laws of the land will deal with you when you kill someone
already born. The laws of God will deal with you who kill the
unborn. His commandment says, “Thou shall not kill.”
There are too many women who can’t have children who would love to
have that child. You are no different than the man in prison who
killed his next-door neighbor when you take the life of an unborn
baby.
God will not have mercy on your soul.

Hall vs. Williams
Parents of Leflore County, it is sad that supporters of
Superintendent of Education Jean Hall have resorted to petty
attacks on individuals who are supporting Dr. Viola Williams. This
is nothing but an attempt to divert attention away from the
issues.
They are claiming that she has her campaign volunteers “speaking””
and “writing” for her, when, in fact, 95 percent of the people
supporting Jean Hall are administrators at the central office and
principals. Most of these people can’t even vote in this
election.
Let’s have a discussion on how to improve the educational system,
because at the end of the day this is about the children.
•••
After reading the statements about Dr. Viola Williams in “My Two
Cents” (Oct. 30), I had to reply.
For the record, the statement made about 90 percent of her
supporters being unemployed with the Leflore County School District
is inaccurate. I am currently employed with the Leflore County
schools and am a full supporter of Dr. Williams.
The employees of the district don’t vocalize their support for Dr.
Williams for fear of being fired.

Campaign signs
Notice to whoever has been stealing Preston Ratliff and Demetrice
Bedell signs and dumping them on my property:
Your behavior has not made me more likely to vote for your
