Emmerich column
Wyatt Emmerich asked the No. 1 question of the day in his op-ed column, “Which is it, ideology or practicality?” (March 7).
This is America’s dilemma. Democrats are united in big government and throwing money at a problem as though that will fix it. The validity of God's word and how obeying it has blessed this country for well over 200 years are now deemed unnecessary.
Republicans have the burden of showing the people that traditional values still hold true for everyone, not just a certain group. The tea party has come to be because more and more Americans realize that something is terribly wrong in Washington and the nation. Christians are still a majority in America and are searching for leaders who speak for them. They could become a real force for positive change if they would sincerely dare to step out and unite all Christians under their banner.

Arrest photo
Regarding the front-page photo of Tommie Lee Peeples Jr. on March 7:
Why did the Commonwealth put the arrest of this young man in handcuffs in the paper? True, he had several citations, but none were considered a moving vehicle nor a bad crime.
I understand that we all need to keep our license valid, have insurance and strap our children in for safety. But this was over the top for the deed.
I wonder if this would have been in the Commonwealth if this young man had come from one of Greenwood’s finest families. Not.

Rude drivers
Regarding the comments last week in “My Two Cents” about rude drivers:
You really need to move to another city where driver’s license, insurance, tags and inspection stickers are required before you can drive a vehicle. Those are things who are just not enforced in the city of Greenwood, for whatever reason.
If you drive in Greenwood, you are pretty much a target of some idiot in a vehicle who has none of the above and has no intention of getting them unless someone gives them to him or her.
You also have to be careful when swerving to avoid giant potholes, which could cause you to hit one of these idiots and become involved in a wreck where you are the only one with driver’s license, tag, an inspection sticker and insurance.
