Handicap parking
Wednesday I went to a store on Park Avenue. There are some “handicap” parking spaces next to the door to make it easier for handicapped people with limited ability to enter the store.
According to my understanding, these spaces are only to be used when a vehicle has a permit and then only when the handicapped individual is in the car.
I saw three cars in these spaces, and not a single one had a permit to park there. One of the drivers exited the vehicle while I was there, and I could not help but notice she looked like a teenager and showed no signs of hampered mobility. In one of the other vehicles, a young man sat behind the steering wheel smoking a cigarette.
As I moved about in the store, I sort of kept my eye open for someone who looked handicapped. Of course, I saw no one who fit that description.
We have police who patrol, and they should be able to take a few minutes every day to ticket some of these inconsiderate drivers. If enough tickets are issued, maybe it will teach these lawbreakers a lesson.
Just a thinking
