Cheating scandal
Your editorial, “Leflore drags feet on test scandal” (Jan. 16), is right on!
Schools should teach credibility, honesty and personal accountability by their actions. Please don’t let up on this one until the culprits are exposed. Parents and taxpayers deserve to know the truth.

Regarding the article “Board mum on cheating charges” (Jan. 15):
I would like to know, When has Dr. Rusty Douglas offered his services to the Leflore County School District? Has he offered his church as a place to tutor? Has he tried to rally retired teachers to use his power in the ministry to help increase test scores?

This is really ridiculous. There is a high probability of cheating at a school. We, the taxpayers, are funding the school, yet we are being given no answers after ample time.
The Leflore County School Board appears to be trying to sweep this matter under the rug. Are we really just going to let them?

School officials have said numerous times that a serious investigation is still ongoing. Before we rush to judgment, can we allow people to do their jobs? My God!
Moreover, it seems as if some are so ready to find that there was, in fact, cheating taking place. Perhaps nothing has been said because there was no cheating to begin with.

City raises
Regarding the article “Council must vote on raise” (Jan. 17):
How many years has it been since the people who serve us in the city have had a raise? Three percent is not much at all. They deserve this raise.
Yeah, Mayor!

Leonard Pitts Jr.
Brilliant, absolutely brilliant. That’s my reaction to the op-ed column by Leonard Pitts Jr. (“How black is black enough?” Jan. 14).
I’ve always been a fan of his. Now he’s my hero. He tells it like it is.
I certainly hope that David Jordan and Willie Perkins had time to read this.
