Gun at Pillow
Regarding the gun that was brought to Pillow Academy by an eighth-grader:
I believe an even greater concern should be why the young child felt the need to arm himself with a weapon. Why did he feel this was his only recourse? Something happened to this child at school that he believed it was bigger than his parents.
Was bullying the culprit? Was it reported to the proper authorities? If so, what was being done to resolve this ever-growing issue? What policy is in place to combat this issue? Was the policy enforced?
After all, when we, as parents, entrust our children to the school system, private or public, that school system has a responsibility to protect our children, whether we are affluent or not.
I do not condone violence of any kind. I just think there are more questions than answers and more than meets the eye.

Junior-high parents at Pillow Academy, please come together with the counselors and talk about the behavior problem your child is having. Bullying should never be tolerated, as has been going on.
Accept responsibility for the hopefully “isolated,” horrific incident that took place on Pillow’s campus.
As a concerned citizen, I do not know any of the families, nor am I interested in knowing. But a tragic thing did happen.
One child is not at fault.

The majority of eighth-grade boys at Pillow Academy are out of control and are bullies. Headmaster Termie Land has known this since they were in the sixth grade and has slapped their hands for punishment.
What will have to happen to convince him and this community that discipline is lax at Pillow Academy, and a safe environment for the students, especially for the eighth-grade students, does not exist?

For those who have questioned why the name of the student wasn’t released, it’s because the child is a minor
I can assure you that not all the kids at Pillow Academy come from rich families. For most of us, it takes all we have to send our children there. I would be a whole lot richer if I didn't have to send my kids to Pillow to ensure that they get a good education.
Instead of worrying about who this child is, our focus should be on praying for this child and his family and the situation that led to this incident.

A juvenile’s name cannot be released to the newspaper, according to state law. If the juvenile is certified and tried as a adult by the court, the name can be released.

Regarding the article “Ex-PA student who took gun to school freed” (Feb. 22):
I guess that will be the end of that.
They weren’t having sex in the park, so this wasn’t news.
