Burglary rash
Regarding the article “Burglars hit Carrollton Ave. businesses” (Nov. 30):
I used to have a commercial establishment and learned the hard way:
1) Always leave cash register drawers opened and leave a few singles and plenty of loose change under the insert. Allowing the thieves easy access to about $10 avoids destruction of an expensive register, increases the odds of fingerprints and minimizes their frustration that can lead to destruction for the sake of destruction.
2) Never leave an unsecured firearm on premises. This can actually reduce or void insurance claims and obviously puts another one on the streets.
3) Back in the 1980s, security systems were rare and expensive. Now, they're cheap and effective. If you really can't afford one, just post exterior and interior signs that you do have one.
